benefits of MSTI
The proposed MSTI project will:
- Provide additional transmission capacity for energy marketers, other utilities and power generators, especially clean-coal, wind, and other renewable energy sources.
- Strengthen the Western Power Grid through additional transmission capacity and improved reliability, flexibility, and performance.
- Meet the increasing demand for electricity that fuels economic growth.
- Provide energy diversification, bi-directional transmission capacity, market competition, and supplier choice to Montana, Idaho and the western region.
- Create positive economic impact along the corridor including increased tax base, job opportunities, renewable energy development and opportunities for competitive energy markets in Montana, Idaho and beyond.
- Increase tax base. Some counties have estimated that MSTI will nearly double their local tax base, providing much needed funding for schools and other critical infrastructure.
